Plan the right intake
The standard Italian academic year starts in the autumn and runs into the following September. Some programmes offer a February entry, especially at postgraduate level, but it is not universal. Deadlines can differ by programme, nationality and whether you need a visa. Confirm the course page, university admissions office and Universitaly instructions before treating an intake as available.
Research the university and city together
Milan, Rome, Bologna, Turin, Padua and Florence are distinct rental markets. Check the teaching campus, expected timetable, public transport, deposit, bills, furnishing, registration requirements and cancellation terms. A room that looks close on a map may not be practical for your daily campus route. Ask for the complete written cost rather than comparing headline rent alone.
