Plan the right intake
The standard Italian academic year starts in the autumn and runs into the following September. Some programmes offer a February entry, especially at postgraduate level, but it is not universal. Deadlines can differ by programme, nationality and whether you need a visa. Confirm the course page, university admissions office and Universitaly instructions before treating an intake as available.
Research the university and city together
Milan is a major multi-campus market: Politecnico di Milano publishes residences across its Milan campuses, while the University of Milan describes an academic year that generally begins in October with teaching split across two semesters. Compare the actual campus, room contract, deposit, bills, registration requirements and arrival date; then apply the same checks in Rome, Bologna, Turin, Padua and Florence. A room that looks close on a map may not be practical for your daily campus route.
