Verify the property and the person asking for money through an independent channel. Never let urgency replace checks on the address, provider identity, contract, payment account, and refund terms.

Verify outside the message thread

Find the provider or university contact details independently rather than using only the phone number or link sent in a message. Confirm that the property, offer reference, staff member, and payment instructions are genuine.

  • Search the exact property address
  • Use an independently found contact channel
  • Match the payment recipient to the contract
  • Avoid cash or untraceable transfer methods
  • Save the offer and receipt

Inspect remotely with evidence

If you cannot visit, request a live video viewing or recent material tied to the exact room or room category. Distinguish a representative image from a guarantee about the room you will receive.

Pause when details change

A last-minute bank-account change, different company name, new payment link, or pressure to bypass the written contract is a reason to stop and re-verify. Contact the provider through its official channel before continuing.
